Growing up on a farm in upstate New York I always had a hodgepodge of animals; I never knew a life without them by my side and I knew I wanted to pursue a career where they would continue to be part of it. As soon as I was able to work I started managing a farm and kennel where I fell in love with Cai, a little barn kitten who became blind and couldn't hack it on the farm so I took him home where he quickly became part of the family. In May 2010 my mother and I went to the German Shepherd Rescue; we quickly were drawn to the 8 month old puppy, Louis, and I convinced her to give him a shot. Upon arrival at his new home he swiftly chose me as his human and I decided to name him Axel.
I moved to Wilmington, NC in October, 2011 where I began working at a coffee shop. I worked my way up to managing one of the locations and I began to miss working with animals so I decided that fostering was an adventure I wanted to take on. A week later I had my first foster failure, a little Australian Cattle dog mix named Hambone Malone, previously known as Sam. In April, 2015 I had my next foster failure, a 2 month old puppy that had been abandoned in Downtown Wilmington. A month later he found his way to my heart and home and to this day, Mcfly is attached to my hip.
In 2016, I decided I needed a change and started my journey working at Unleashed where I learned about holistic pet care and natural healing. I've learned so much about the benefits of good nutrition and the differences it can make. Axel will be 9 this year, when people meet him they always say he doesn't look or act his age and must be younger, that keeps my passion and motivation alive. I'm always looking for more ways to improve my dogs lives and share my knowledge with other pet parents. When I'm not working you can usually find me hiking or getting into some other sort of shenanigans with my partner in crime, Mcfly.
