About Zena...

What’s up y’all! I’m Zena (yes, like the warrior princess), and I would love to tell you a little about myself! I was born here in Wilmington and raised in the Charlotte metropolitan area. Since moving back to Wilmington, I’ve been working on earning my B.A. in Sociology at UNCW expected in May of 2025, with hopes of furthering my education in the pet industry. I have fostered dogs, volunteered at local shelters, pet-sat dogs & cats, shadowed veterinarians and vet techs, and worked at a locally owned dog daycare. I also plan to get my wildlife rehabilitation license in the future, because it was always my answer to “What do you wanna be when you grow up?” And for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to work with animals of all shapes and sizes, breeds and species.

I have two pets, a Jack Russell Beagle mix named Dayze (pronounced like daze) and a Dilute Calico named Droopy. My fiancé found Dayze on Facebook Marketplace who was a part of an accidental litter, and Droopy was adopted from the local shelter. Currently, I’m engaged to my long-distance partner of five years, and our pets are split up between us to keep us company while we’re apart! I love them all with every fiber of my being. (By the way…my kitty is my favorite, no offense Dayze)

I began working at Unleashed in mid-2023 and wish I’d found the opportunity to work here sooner. Throughout my time here, I have learned more than I could’ve ever imagined by fulfilling the Unleashed mission. I have grown a passion for learning about canine and feline nutrition and will always use my knowledge to help you, as pet parents, and your pets to the best of my ability. Every day I come into work my goal is to make sure your visit with us is worth it and your pets get all they deserve and more!
