Helpful Resources

ADOPTION

The staff members of Unleashed often foster dogs and cats for various local rescues. Click here to see their current foster pets available. Our stores also host meet and greet and adoption events many weekends; check out our events calendar for details.

Unleashed is dedicated to finding good homes for the millions of dogs and cats that need them.  We strongly advocate for adoption and do not sell puppies or kittens.  Click here to learn more about pet shop puppies and beware of puppy scams. There are lots of greats dogs and cats, mutts and pure-breeds, looking for good homes.  Please consider adopting a homeless pet! Save a dog from death row by searching for your favorite breed (or mix) at www.dogsindanger.com before it's too late.

Adopt from a Rescue Group

Rescue groups are a great resource for both pure-breed and mixed breed dogs and cats! Some groups focus on only one breed, some only take cats or only dogs. You can find a rescue group for just about every type of animal you can think of! Generally, a rescue is a private, non-profit entity that utilizes foster homes to care for the animals they take in. Some may have a facility, but most do not.

Adopt from your local County Shelter

County shelters are generally "open admission" shelters, which means that they HAVE to take in any animal that comes through their doors. For this reason, they are often limited on space and that is what leads to euthanasia for pets that have been there for a while or that have medical/behavioral challenges. Did you know that North Carolina is third highest in the nation for number of pets euthanized in our shelters? The only way to change that is with community support!

Adopting, fostering, and volunteering all make a huge difference for these pets and they need you just as much as, if not more than, the pets in rescues!
